Maenam is another spot of solitude and privacy with tranquil beaches set amidst the lush tropical backdrop that is typically Koh Samui. Maenam lies to the west of Bophut and although it has earned its reputation as a sleepy town, there is no shortage of pristine beaches and tropical scenery, which makes Koh Samui such a popular island destination. The island of Koh Phangan is visible from Maenam and it is reached by private hire speedboat or scheduled catamaran from one of the two piers at Maenam. It is also worth visiting Koh Tao, another small island beyond Koh Phangan. Many small shops and quaint market stalls can be found along the narrow roads leading to the beach and along the entire length of Maenam's main through road. Maenam extends into the the hills where you will find the world famous Santiburi Country Club that attracts thousands of visitors every year. The 6930-yard par 72-championship golf course is set within a spectacular tropical landscape, surrounding the lush fairways, beautifully manicured greens, waterfalls and creeks, with dramatic views of Koh Samui's coastline toward Maenam and Koh Phangan beyond.
